Aida Álvarez, former director of the US Small Business Administration, will join the board of directors of Bill.com

SAN JOSE, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Bill.com (NYSE:BILL), a leading provider of cloud-based software that simplifies, digitizes and automates financial operations for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs), today announced that Aida Álvarez had joined the company’s board of directors. Álvarez is a former director of the United States Small Business Administration, an experienced board member, an accomplished investment banker, an award-winning journalist, and a distinguished public servant.

Álvarez was the first Latino woman to be appointed to a cabinet position of a U.S. president. She entered the Clinton administration as the first director of the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight and later led the US Small Business Administration from 1997 to 2001.

She has over a decade of experience in investment banking, working as vice president of public finance for Bear Stearns and First Boston. Previously, Álvarez served as vice president of public affairs at New York City Health and Hospitals. She was also an award-winning journalist in print and television in the New York metropolitan market.

Álvarez is the founding president emeritus of the Latino Community Foundation in California. She is a member of the San Francisco Symphony Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees of the DeYoung and Legion of Arts Museums. Álvarez was previously curator of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. She holds a Bachelor of Arts from Harvard College and served on the Harvard Board of Overseers. She holds honorary doctorates from Bethany College, Iona College, Mercy College, and the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico.
